We’ve just had a great review left following the completion of the NVQ level 2 in Site Carpentry. The NVQ level 2 was gained through EWPA (Experienced Worker Practical Assessment) and takes 1 full day at YTA. Rob’s review is below: Hi All. After many years of carpentry I decided to update my c.v with a NVQ. It is at that point I realised my struggle with dyslexcia. I plucked the courage to call the first company I saw online. And what an important call it was. From the very moment I called YTA and explained my condition to the guys on the office. It wasn’t any trouble what so ever to accommodate myself. Firstly Graham. Books you in. Prior to attending Mark calls you. On that call it’s all about the task. Relax! It’s easy. With years of skill you will think it’s a doddle trust me! Mark is the examiner on the day of the test but to be fair you will already know him. This is due to him going threw everything on the calls leading up to the test day. You will then receive a plan in the post which is what you’ll build on the day. In the plan pack will be some questions. Again if in doubt just call The office or Mark. Couldn’t be simpler! On the day. Nerves flowing arrive at the centre nice and early. Booom! Cuppa tea and and choccie bickies. It really wasn’t was I was expecting. Mark on the day was absolutely outstanding. (Thanks Mark) Graham in the office. Mr cool! Was just so erm? Cool an that. All my materials all there waiting for me to drink me tea. Stand by GO. Nice clean workspace was provided all good timber. Remember I am dyslexic. Always someone walking around to ask if I was on any doubt at all. I was even asked did I require a blue overlay to read a little easier. They had also had my plans blown up to a bigger size for me. I really couldn’t say it more clearer. Go see the staff at YTA for all your trades certs. I promise you for my experience they have all been truly amazing. A massive massive thanks to Mark Dale and Graham for all your help throughout every step of my journey. Ps. Booooom cert arrived. NVQ level 2 in Site Carpentry EWPA YTA Review The above review plus many more can be found at www.reviews.co.uk Do you wish to undertake NVQ level 2 in Site Carpentry? Do you have at least 5 years experience in your trade? Then you can spend 1 full day at our NOCN approved NVQ Centre in Yorkshire completing your NVQ level 2 through EWPA (Experienced Worker Practical Assessment). The EWPA is a NVQ assessment route enabling an experienced worker to achieve their NVQ level 2 in their relevant trade through a practical assessment. By using your skills acquired over the years to complete a task in our NVQ Centre (usually 1 day) which is then assessed. This qualification is the one required to attain the blue skilled worker CSCS card and gain construction site work. The EWPA NVQ assessor will evaluate your skills through professional discussion, witness testimonies and the practical assessment. Units that make up the Site Carpentry NVQ Level 2 QCF641: Conform to general workplace safety QCF642: Conform to efficient work practices QCF643: Move and handle resources Supported by THREE optional units to choose from: QCF09: Install first fixing components QCF10: Install second fixing components QCF11: Erect structural carcassing components QCF12: Maintain non-structural carpentry work QCF628: Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines in the workplace Assessment Criteria for NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Wood Occupations – Site Carpentry: The assessment criteria for the above units for the carpentry NVQ can be found by clicking HERE. You will be assessed through practical assessment, witness testimonies, professional discussion and direct questioning in order to cover all of the assessment criteria Cskills Awards L2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) – Site Carpentry QUA900 Price £900 Fast track NVQ for carpenters. Carpentry NVQ level 2 at YTA. How the process works… 1) You contact us and enquire about EWPA for your trade. We will explain the process and ask you how many years experience you have in your trade area. You must have a minimum of 5 years experience and have experience & knowledge in all the NVQ units (as above) needed to gain the NVQ. 2) We will pass your details on to our NVQ carpentry assessor who will give you a call and complete what we call a ‘skills scan’. This is a chat amongst the two of you where he will want to know what type of work or projects you have been completing and for how long, he will want to know if you have experience and knowledge of the above NVQ units. He will explain that to achieve the NVQ in Carpentry you need to achieve all NVQ parts. The NVQ parts… NVQ Part 1) Witness testimonies. These are pre-printed in the carpentry NVQ pack and are sent out to you 2 weeks before your assessment date at our NVQ Centre in Bradford. You must get them signed by a trade related co-worker who has seen you complete this work in the last 3 years. NVQ Part 2) Practical assessment. This is where you come to YTA and complete a practical assessment pre-set by the CITB. The drawing plan with all specifications and measurements is sent out to you 2 weeks before this practical assessment. You must complete the assessment to spec and within the allocated time. You must bring you own tools for the assessment. Awaiting for you will be the materials to complete the task. NVQ Part 3) Professional discussion. This is also completed at YTA on the same day as your practical assessment. The best way to describe this is like a structured discussion around the NVQ carpentry units. It is not a questions and answers session but more of a talking through jobs or projects you have completed and the assessor may ask you to elaborate on certain parts so you are effectively talking your way through the NVQ units as talking evidence. Thus turning your experience as a carpenter onto the NVQ. NVQ Part 4) Direct Questioning. Some assessment criteria within the carpentry nvq will ask you to ‘state’ or ‘describe’. These will be covered during the professional discussion or by direct questioning. The assessment criteria can be found below the carpentry nvq units listed above. Time to book it and get on with it… If you are happy to proceed and you feel confident and our NVQ assessor also feels confident in your ability and experience to achieve the NVQ we can go ahead with booking the carpentry NVQ. We require a deposit of £450. We then send you the documentation as detailed above and we will set your carpentry NVQ assessment date. When you arrive for the NVQ assessment you will bring with you your signed witness testimonies and your tools. This is when you will pay the remaining balance of £450. You will then be inducted into the NVQ. During this day you will complete the practical assessment and professional discussion. Total price £900. At the end of the day you will be told by the assessor if you have achieved or not achieved. If you have achieved you will be sent your certificate within 14 days (sometimes can be 7 days). You can now apply for your blue skilled worker CSCS card and get on site! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like more information. If you would like to book a course or look around the centre we have an open door policy and you can visit YTA Training anytime without an appointment between 8:30am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Plastering is a trade that interests all kinds of people, for all kinds of reasons. Of course, not everyone who joins us here at YTA for one of our five-day or 10-day intensive plastering courses necessarily seeks to practise plastering as a trade at all – they may simply be enthusiastic DIYers. But others are existing tradespeople wishing to extend their skills, and some are complete beginners who wish to take the first step to a career as a professional plasterer. Sure enough, if you wish to take on one of our intensive plastering courses, whether for five or 10 days, you don’t need to have any previous experience at all. However, it would be quite wrong to think that you couldn’t possibly learn much in such a short time-span! After all, when you choose YTA, you’ll be able to get to grips with plastering in a large training bay of your very own, not needing to share with anyone. What’s more, as we only have five of these training bays, we only take on this many students for each running of the course, so you’ll be able to look forward to a high standard of teaching thanks to a low student to teacher/trainer ratio. But what will you actually learn on a course with us? As for the actual content of these intensive plastering courses, it’s fair to say that you’ll be covering some serious ground with us! Even if you go for ‘just’ the five-day course, for instance, you’ll be able to board and prepare your training bay – or ‘room’ – before plastering a ceiling for the first time. This will be followed by plastering walls, even including a window to trim up to. You’ll then be taught how to over-skim previous work, repair plastering and ‘feather in’ – this being an important technique for larger walls. Even more awaits you, however, if you enrol on our 10-day course. This will entail the course going into a second week, with the chance to plaster the full wall and ceilings in your training bay as a complete project, instead of the two of them being treated as separate tasks. For this, the traditional method of plastering onto block work (bay and screed) will be used, instead of board fixing (dot and dab). All of this is just some of what our training can give you The above isn’t even everything that you’ll receive for your time and effort when you enrol on one of our intensive plastering courses, with the likes of important health and safety and business start-up information also being included. All in all, you could hardly choose a better way to equip yourself with a clear practical and theoretical understanding of plastering in the space of just a few days. For more in-depth information about our five-day or 10-day intensive plastering course, simply browse our relevant course pages online. You’re also welcome to call the YTA team, on 01274 682199, if you have any questions that you would like to have answered before you book. Take that first big step to a rewarding new life as a plasterer, by reserving your place on an intensive plastering course with YTA today! Thursday 25th July 2019 was the hottest July day on record with temperatures reaching 38.1C. That week at YTA we had a variety of courses running, it was very hot and everyone was suffering in the heat whilst trying to learn a new skill. Tiling, plumbing, kitchen fitting, carpentry and joinery courses were all running but it was the plasterers that were really suffering. Mixing plaster, up and down ‘hop ups’, back and forth to their mix and skimming their walls and ceilings. It was getting sweaty! As staff we tried keeping everyone going with cool water, we stocked up on supplies they day before as the 24th was still quite a warm day too. We decided that there was only one thing for it, a BBQ! Let’s just do it and grab a few disposable BBQ’s from ASDA over the road, several packs of burgers and sausages and a load of ice lollies. Spirits were definitely lifted and it was a much needed enjoyable lunch hour where we all made the most of the superb weather. We then received a lovely review from Marc and Josh who travelled up from South Wales following their plastering course. Had an absolutely fantastic time at the YTA training centre. I went with my brother in law to do the plastering course and they went above and beyond to ensure our confidence and skills were up there before we left. Dave knows his craft, a great instructor and he certainly brought the best out of both of us. The atmosphere was incredible, met some great people and made some good friends. Graham the owner and all of the team members were the nicest people we’ve ever met, he went out to get supplies for a bbq and kept us in good spirits with ice creams due to the crazy weather, you won’t get that anywhere else! I would highly recommend this training centre if you’re looking to learn a new skill or skills. Thanks to Graham and Dave for an incredible experience Marc & Josh Many thanks for the lovely review Marc, glad you and Josh both enjoyed the course. There was no way we couldn’t have a BBQ and Ice lollies on the hottest day of the year wether you are learning how to plaster or not! I think everyone on all the courses appreciated it too. Hope the plastering goes well and we may well see you back for a tiling course in the future when you are ready. You might not have thought that within just one or two work weeks, you could go from being a complete newcomer to the world of tiling, to someone with sufficient skills, information and confidence to actually begin tiling professionally. Yet, this is precisely what the five-day tiling intensive courses that we are presently offering here at YTA can make possible for you. We run two five-day courses, in fact – the Intensive Wall and Floor Tiling Course and the Non-Accredited Advanced Tiling Course – that can be taken separately one after the other, or as a whole when you enrol on our 10-day Intensive ‘Ready for Anything’ Tiling Course. Barely a week needed to become a capable tiler Let’s start from the (very) beginning, with our 5-day Intensive Wall and Floor Tiling Course. This is the perfect route to take to a professional tiling career if you have never previously done tiling, but it’s also suitable for enthusiastic DIYers and other tradespeople who wish to become tilers. Regardless, you can expect to cover a serious amount of territory over the five days of this course, starting on Monday with health and safety, followed by the preparation of surfaces and the cutting of tiles with a tile cutter, moving onto tiling a kitchen and grouting before the end of the day. The course then continues on Tuesday with the polishing off of the previous day’s work and silicone sealing to complete the tiled kitchen. Students of the course will then set out and tile to and around windows, in addition to tiling down to the floor on a large area. Over the final three days of the course, you will learn such tasks as marking and cutting tiles around obstacles, tiling a bathroom, drilling holes in tiles, full measuring and quoting, and preparing, setting out and tiling the bathroom floor. But there’s so much more that you can train in… As aforementioned, the above is merely a summary of what our beginners’ five-day intensive tiling course will teach you. It is just one of our tiling intensive courses, with the second five-day course encompassing such aspects as tiling with diamond inserts, wet rooms, tanking, plunge cutting and naturals, including cutting and sealing. Finally, of course, there is our 10-day course that brings together both of these weeks. You can enquire about any of our tiling intensive courses here at YTA by calling 01274 682199 or 07400 922788 or emailing info@ytatraining.com. We would be delighted to answer any questions that you may have, and you are also welcome to book a visit to our training centre so that you can take a look around and chat to current students before committing to a course with us. If you work in such a trade as construction, bathroom and kitchen fitting, heating installation or domestic appliance installation, it’s understandable why you may also be anxious to equip yourself with a good level of expertise in the associated field of domestic electrical installations. Sure enough, a course exists here at YTA that enables you to do precisely this, should you carry out electrical work as a secondary task in your line of employment. That pathway is the 10-day Domestic Electrical Installer (DEI) course, which – through its combination of practical and theoretical work – gives you a comprehensive understanding of domestic electrical installations. More than this, though, the course culminates in an industry-recognised certificate that remains valid for five years, which helps to make it an even more worthwhile investment. Who should – or should not – sign up for this course? It is important to emphasise that our Domestic Electrical Installer courses are designed for the needs of existing professionals working within the electrical or related industries; they are not suitable for anyone with no prior qualifications or experience as an electrician, and who wishes to become one. Specifically, workers in the aforementioned trades whose Logic Certification Defined or Full Scope Part P certificate has or is on the verge of expiring are advised to enrol on this course, especially given that it covers all areas to have been changed or updated since the BS7671:2018 18th Edition Wiring Regulations were introduced. What will you know as a result of obtaining your DEI certificate? There is a wide range of areas in which you will be trained and assessed as a student of our DEI course – from component exchange and pre-work survey/inspections to how unsafe electrical situations can be identified and how cables can be installed or rerouted to form suitable outlet connections. Along the way, those enrolled on our Domestic Electrical Installer courses also become well-versed in the applicable building regulations and electrical safety legislation regulations, standards and terminology. Such aspects as safe isolation procedures, earthing and bonding requirements, special locations, high protective conductors and the maintenance of domestic electrical installations are also all touched upon over the 10 days. All in all, you could scarcely hope for more territory to be covered by a single course dedicated to the needs of domestic electrical installers. Assessment methods used, meanwhile, include observed practical tasks alongside multiple choice and short written response and scenario questions. Do you have any further questions about the suitability of our Domestic Electrical Installer courses for you? If so, the YTA team is available to take your call; just phone 01274 682199 for all of the information you’ll need to make your choice.
